Gilks impressed on his first competitive appearance at Glanford Park, and he believes that there were plenty of positives to take out of the game.

He provided his reaction to iFollow Iron after the match.

ON THE WIMBLEDON GAME…
MG: In the first half I thought that we started okay and grew into the game. They had a bit of a spell for about ten minutes but we got a goal which was a great finish by Conor (Townsend). Towards the end of the first half I thought that we were a getting a lot more possession of the ball and being successful going forward. In the second half they came out and imposed themselves on the game. I thought that they had the better of the possession in the second half and unfortunately we did concede. However, we managed to hold on at the end.

ON THE POSITIVES…
MG: It’s the first game and you don’t want to lose the first game. We got a point from it and we know where we are with competitive matches rather than it just being a pre-season game. We now know what we need to work on and we’ll be doing that on the training pitch.

ON SETTLING INTO THE SIDE…
MG: We’ve had six weeks to do it now so that’s more than enough time to settle in. It helps with a few of the older heads coming in. We’ve been around the block so we’ve done all of this before and we fit in well. We impose ourselves in the dressing room and they’re all great lads so we’ve been welcomed in with open arms. For that reason it’s been quite easy to slot in. We’ve fitted into many teams before we joined Scunthorpe so it’s just the next step in our career.

ON RECOVERING AHEAD OF NOTTS COUNTY IN THE CARABAO CUP…
MG: It’ll be a physical game. They will be full of energy as we’re a league above. We might have a little discussion about Saturday's game on Monday. However, then it’s time to move on as the games come thick and fast so you can’t dwell on it too much. The preparation for Notts County has got to start.
