Behind-the-scenes experience for young Iron trio

21 August 2017

A trio of young Iron fans were treated to a behind-the-scenes experience ahead of Saturday's 1-0 victory over Oxford United.

Daniel (nine), Holly (seven) and Georgia (10), returned midway through their week-long holiday in Withernsea to enjoy the experience, with mum and dad Gary and Emma also enjoying the behind-the-scenes areas of Glanford Park.

The 50-minute long tour saw the quintet visit the executive areas of the stadium, while also visiting the media areas, legends lounge, Directors Box and press room before visiting the playing staff's area.

With visits to the referee's room and the boot room complete, there was a final stop in the home dressing room with kick-off against Oxford around 100 minutes away. The players took time to sign autographs and pose for photographs in that time before the tour came to an end.

Matt Gilks, the Iron's goalkeeper, then spotted the quintet located in their usual location in the Britcon Stand and invited Daniel onto the pitch for the early part of the warm-up. Daniel also looked the part, arriving in a full goalkeeper match kit.

After the experience, Emma said: "We had a great tour so thank you for your time. The kids really enjoyed it. Thanks also to the players please as I know we'll have interrupted their normal routine. Daniel was especially pleased when Matt Gilks said he could go in the goal and practice. He's made his year."

Gilks already seems to be a favourite amongst the family, with Daniel, Gary and Emma all declaring him as their favourite player. Holly's favourite player is Paddy Madden, while Georgia's favourite was eventual match-winner Josh Morris.
