Manager Graham Alexander was delighted with the 4-0 away victory at Plymouth Argyle on Saturday.
United ran out 4-0 victors against the Green Army, with Paddy Madden (two), Tom Hopper and Josh Morris on target in the success at Home Park.
The hosts did have Antoni Sarcevic sent off just before half-time, but Scunthorpe were professional and made the most of having an extra man on the field - creating numerous chances.
Afterwards, Alexander provided his reaction to iFollow Iron.
ON THE GAME…
GA: It was a fantastic performance, to win 4-0. We were delighted to get the goals we needed. We’re even more pleased with the clean sheet as well to go with it. It wasn’t without moments in the game where we had to defend and Matt Gilks had to make a couple of saves. I felt we needed to be more ruthless a couple of times but I won’t go overboard. The lads put in a real hard shift on the day. They approached the game in the right way, looked after themselves right this week to prepare, and it came out in the performance. We created some really good opportunities and scored some good goals. We’ll now put that to bed and focus on the next week.
ON PADDY MADDEN’S BRACE…
GA: I’m delighted for him, to get another couple of goals. They’re his first in the league this season, and it’s part of a win. The pleasing thing is he’s in the area to score goals. For now, it’s about the team being successful and Paddy will tell you the same. He wants the team to win and you see that with how he approaches the game. He and Tom Hopper created lots of problems on the day, and led from the front. I’m delighted both scored. It was really welcome from the two of them. They work well together and on another day could have had another goal each.
"I’m delighted for the supporters, who have come all this way. I know traffic was terrible on Friday, but they’ve supported the boys in their numbers. They can go home with smiles on their faces and enjoy the weekend."
ON BACK-TO-BACK CLEAN SHEETS…
GA: It’s important we try to build on that. We know our attacking threats and the quality we can produce in scoring goals. We just felt we had to be more ruthless with our defending. There were still one or two opportunities we gave away that we weren’t happy about, but you have to accept we’re playing good teams and not everything will go our way in every game. We will face a lot of challenges each week, and we have to rise to those to win games.
ON THE 281 FANS WHO TRAVELLED FROM SCUNTHORPE…
GA: I’m delighted for the supporters, who have come all this way. I know traffic was terrible on Friday, but they’ve supported the boys in their numbers. They can go home with smiles on their faces and enjoy the weekend. We value their support so much and I felt it was a great performance from the players to repay that loyalty coming down today.
ON JORDAN CLARKE AND KEVIN VAN VEEN BEING BACK FROM INJURY AND ON THE BENCH…
GA: Jordan is probably a little bit behind Kev, who only missed the start of the week. We need that strength in depth and quality throughout the squad. It’s good to see the boys are getting back to fitness and are prepared to compete for that spot in the team.
