After two opening league draws, Scunthorpe go into the game looking to register their first win of the season.

Alexander spoke to iFollow Iron ahead of the Oxford fixture, discussing the opponents, team news and transfer dealings.

ON THE WEEK SO FAR…
GA: It’s been a good week and now the preparations are getting into full swing for the Oxford game. We had a behind-closed-doors reserve game on Tuesday for the lads who didn’t play last Saturday. That was good for them to blow their cobwebs off and try and get match-fit. We have to look after these lads because we know their opportunity is going to come, they know it’s going to come, and it’s down to them to take it. The team is picked on performance and if players take every opportunity to make sure they perform.

ON TEAM NEWS…
GA: Jordan Clarke (who missed Rochdale with a thigh strain) is going to be out on the grass today, but he is still going to be unavailable for Saturday. Kyle Wootton felt his hamstring on Tuesday so he is out for the weekend. He will be a miss from the squad, because he was on the bench last week. Apart from that, I think we have everyone else fit. If Jordan gets through the next couple of days, he will be in contention next week, but this week will be too soon for him.

"That is the target for us all – to take the opposition out of the equation and focus on ourselves, making sure we’re performing at the highest level we can do and that will be enough to win games."

Graham Alexander, manager

ON THE SQUAD…
GA: When we put the (reserve) team out on Tuesday it was a reasonably strong team, because the majority of it was players who will be in contention for Saturday’s game. We probably need one or two more players to push that, but we know we have got options there, which is the main thing. If we need to change the team before the game or during it, then we have got those options as last week showed when we brought on Duane Holmes and Tom Hopper, managing to get the equaliser really quickly after that and dominating the game after that.

ON POSSIBLE TRANSFERS…
GA: There’s nothing at the moment. Nothing going in or nothing going out. We are still working behind the scenes. We’ve still got a couple of weeks until the window shuts. I’m guessing the week before the deadline things will speed up.

ON OXFORD UNITED…
GA: They have started really well with two wins in two games. Oxford are always a decent team to compete against. They are always competitive and never really a team that struggles, they’re always there or thereabouts. We know the quality they have in their ranks, but we know the quality we have as well, and that’s the biggest focus for me and my staff to get the best out of our team. I think with the manager changing it will change their playing style more than anything else. We believe when we’re as close to maximum as we can get, then we can cause any team problems. That is the target for us all – to take the opposition out of the equation and focus on ourselves, making sure we’re performing at the highest level we can do and that will be enough to win games.
