We're full of confidence

13 April 2017

David Mirfin says he and the rest of his United team-mates will be heading into Friday’s clash with MK Dons “full of confidence.”

Buoyed by an impressive home victory over Bolton Wanderers last Saturday, Mirfin believes it’s now about backing that up at Stadium MK.

Speaking to The Iron PlayerHD, Mirfin said: “It’s going to be a tough game, it always is when you go to Milton Keynes.

“However, we should be full of confidence after Saturday’s result, and we’ve got to show that in the game.

“We know how tough it’s going to be. We’ll prepare exactly the same way as we did last week, and that’s all we can do.”

Just four matches remain in the campaign, and the 31-year-old states they’re matches that everyone is looking forward to immensely.

He said: “Regardless of your league position, I think you should always relish the games you’ve got remaining, because it’s a long time from the last game of the season until the first of the new one,” Mirfin declared.

“We’re all looking forward to it, we’re full of confidence, and we know what’s at stake.”

Mirfin’s 11th minute header was enough to see off the Trotters at the weekend, and he explained that it rounded off a near perfect afternoon’s work.

He of course insisted the result always is the priority, but at the same added that it’s nice to chip in when and where he can.

“It doesn’t happen very often like that,” he explained.

“I think any defender will tell you that they’d rather get three points than score a goal. However, to get the goal and a clean sheet is a good day.”

Reflecting on the win against the Trotters, Mirfin believes for the Iron to bounce back in the manner which they did will stand them in good stead for the Good Friday encounter with Robbie Neilson's side.

“I thought we played really well - especially after the disappointing performance at Millwall,” stated the defender.

“The fans deserved a reaction, I think as players we needed to show a reaction to last week, and we definitely got that.

“It’s up to us now as a group of players to make sure we match that in the remaining games. We’ve got to make sure we take that form and how we played into the game on Friday.”
