It's all about building momentum

21 April 2017

Paddy Madden is looking for the Iron to carry on where they left off in Saturday’s away clash with Swindon Town.

Madden says the Easter weekend triumphs over MK Dons and Chesterfield have put United in a good position, but in the 27-year-old’s eyes it’s all about capitalising on that good form.

Speaking to The Iron PlayerHD, Madden said: “We’ve been playing very well.

“The play-offs are now secured, so if we aren’t to make the top two, we need to keep picking up results from now until those play-offs and go into them with momentum.

“There were two good performances from the boys, so we couldn’t have asked for a better week-end, and we’ll see where it now leads us.

“We played a different style away at MK Dons, and it worked. It perhaps wasn’t great on the eye, but I think at this stage of the season getting three points is all that matters.

“It’s all about building that momentum, when you get momentum going into the play-offs it plays a massive part.”

Assessing the challenge which awaits he and his team-mates at the County Ground, Madden is expecting a close match, given what’s on the line for both sides.

“I’ve been in this league for a long time now, and I’ve never had one easy game. This game will be massive for Swindon, and massive for us also,” he declared.

“It’s not going to be easy, because they need the points, as do we for different reasons, so it’ll be a tough encounter.”

On a personal note, Madden spoke of the understanding he’s struck up with fellow frontman Ivan Toney.

The Irishman declared he’s enjoying playing alongside the Newcastle United loanee, and added that it’s pleasing to see him now finding the net on a regular basis.

“I like to play with a physical striker that wins a lot of headers in the air, which Ivan is good at,” Madden explained.

“It’s good playing with someone like that, because it then gives me the freedom to get in behind. It’s working well, and Ivan’s getting some goals which is good.

“Hopefully he keeps that up, and keeps the goals coming as we enter the play-offs.”
