ONE GAME AT A TIME

16 September 2016

Iron captain Stephen Dawson says the squad must not rest on their laurels, as they travel to Shrewsbury Town on Saturday.

Dawson is expecting a stern test from the Shrews, but feels it’s a game United are more than capable of getting a positive result from.

The Irishman told The Iron PlayerHD: “It’s a case of taking one game at a time.

“Shrewsbury are very tough opposition. I know (their manager) Micky Mellon from my Barnsley days, I know how he operates, and his man management is second to none.

“I feel that they’ll think they should be in a better position. However, we’ve got to go there with the same intensity we did last Saturday, and hopefully take the game to them.”

The week leading up to the game has been clear, something which hasn’t happened too often so far this season - which in Dawson’s eyes was a huge bonus for the group.

“With not having a midweek game, we’ve been able to go back to basics with what the gaffer wants us to do, and tweak a few things that we still need to improve on,” he stated.

“Because even though we did well on Saturday, there were still probably times where we could have been better.

“The manager will go into a lot of detail about how he wants us to defend, how he wants us to support each other when we’re on the ball and when we’re off it too.

“It’s been a really good week. We’ve recharged the batteries, and it’s been tough, but we’re ready to kick on now for a week which I believe will really test us.”

He also had a word on Josh Morris, who recently picked up the Sky Bet League One player of the month award - an award the Irishman insisted his teammate full deserved.

“He’s a credit to himself and his family, the way he trains and the way he pushes himself,” he continued.

“Obviously I know he gets a lot of goals and assists, but what I like about him is the other side of the game which he does, that people probably won’t see.

“He’s up and down the pitch, he’s honest and for me, there’s no better winger in this division.”
