I'VE COME HERE TO WORK HARD

19 September 2016

After making his first start in Iron colours, defender Harry Toffolo hopes it’s the beginning of a run in the starting eleven.

Toffolo played the full 90 minutes as United recorded a 1-0 victory over Shrewsbury Town at Greenhous Meadow and, for the Norwich loanee, it’s something he wants to build on.

Speaking to The Iron PlayerHD, Toffolo said: “I thought I did well and I got into the game.

“I’ve been around the boys for a couple of weeks now, and settled in really well. I got a two minute cameo last weekend, but it was nice to get a full 90 minutes under my belt, and hopefully I can crack on.

“I’ve come in here to play, I’ve not come here to sit on the bench, I’ve come here to work hard. I’ve learnt a lot in the time I’ve been here already, and now I can’t wait to crack on."

Assessing the match as a whole, the deadline day addition stated it was pure strength of character which saw the visitors through - a quality he believes is essential.

“It’s a fantastic result, the boys dug deep and they’re the kind of games you look back on at the end of the season and say that was a massive three points,” he explained.

“We weren’t at our best in the game, but they’re the best three points you can get throughout the course of a season.

“In the second half it was literally just a fight. We had to put all of our men behind the ball, and sometimes you’ve got to do that in a game to get three points."

The victory now means Toffolo and his teammates go into Tuesday night’s clash with Charlton Athletic sitting top of the League One table, but the 21-year-old insists no one will be taking their foot off the gas.

He says he’s expecting another difficult test, but at the same time said the Iron will be going into it in a confident mood.

“To be top of the league with a game in hand is always nice, and we’ve got the game in hand on Tuesday,” he continued.

“It’s a big game, Charlton are a big club, and we’ve got to take it very seriously and go at it. Every game is different, and we could turn up on Tuesday night and it could be really different.

“So we’ve got to work on everything that could happen. We didn’t expect the match here to be how it was, but we dug deep and got the three points."
