FROM THE CHAIRMAN: PROGRESS

7 September 2016

In my last three seasons we haven’t really started very well, so I am delighted that the team have continued where they left off with a fine ten points from the first five games this season.

We have been on an upward curve since my first season and, although there have been a few bumps along the road, the football now is some of the best we have seen in my tenure. Having not been beaten in the league at home since December 2015, we now do have that home fortress, and our tactics and commitment seem to be working on the pitch and that has a lot to do with the team spirit we are now showing.

Graham and his management team have worked tirelessly to ensure the players know what is needed and that is now coming to fruition with good results on the pitch. Contributions are now happening all over the pitch, both in goals and superb performances, and it is great to see our captain back to fitness and showing what he can do. I believe his performances have lifted us at crucial points in the games we have played and shows what we missed early in last season’s campaign.

All the new players have settled in well and in particular I must mention Josh Morris, who we missed out on two seasons ago, now flourishing with us. Kevin van Veen is finally showing his true form with some spectacular strikes and our defensive group of lads continue to impress. We have now strengthened the squad with three excellent signings, who will undoubtedly push for a starting place and keep everyone on their toes until January. Let us also not forget the players who have been injured - Paddy, Luke, Ness. Certainly when these are back and firing we will have an exciting team and one I am not envious in picking each week! All of them have worked so hard in pre-season and continue to work hard as we try and maintain a high level of football and fitness and they must do this if we are to compete week in and out.

I wish both the players and the management all the best for the remainder of the season. Behind the scenes we again improve the matchday experience with excellent food options and a refreshed Iron Bar but the only disappointing thing would be the non-delivery of our kit, which has been totally frustrating. This not only means we are late ourselves with orders for our fans, but we have had to cover the lack of funds due to the fact we have no income coming in from their sale. We have now had some of the delivery, with more to arrive shortly, so great news.

Our work on the stadium continues, if not frustratingly slow at the moment, and I hope to have some more positive news at the end of the month. Everything we work towards involves the move and although delayed we can look forward to an exciting future both on and off the pitch for Scunthorpe United.

Please enjoy the football and let’s drive the team forward for a special season!

Up the Iron!
