WE NEED TO IMPOSE OUR GAME

21 October 2016

United’s Conor Townsend believes it’s up to the Iron to impose themselves on Chesterfield in their clash at the Proact Stadium on Saturday.

The full-back wants the team to keep the focus on themselves going into the match and he feels, if they do so, they’ll have a great chance of taking all three points.

Speaking to The Iron PlayerHD, Townsend said: “They’ll hold their own threats against us and we need to deal with that.

“I think if we look after how we play and play to the level we know we can, then it’ll be a good game.”

Townsend says he’s speaking for every member of the squad when stating that three points is the target, after the minor blip against Oldham Athletic.

“We’re all looking to make Tuesday’s result right and it’s going to be another difficult game against Chesterfield, but preparations are going well,” he revealed.

“Tuesday was not a reflection of how we’ve played this year and us as a group. We want to put that right straight away, and luckily we’ve got a game coming four days afterwards.

“The last time we got beat in the league was against Port Vale and we went on a good run after that, so we’ve to do the same again this time.”

On a personal level, the 23-year-old revealed his delight at returning to the side on Tuesday after a recent injury lay-off, and added that he’ll be looking to press on and recapture his early season form.

“I felt a bit rusty to be fair and it took me a while to get back up to speed. I enjoyed being back out there with the lads though,” Townsend explained.

“It’s been a frustrating injury really, but hopefully I’m over it and I can kick on and try to find the form I started with in the first couple of games of the season.

“It’s been difficult, because I’m not used to being injured to be fair. Record wise I haven’t had many and, even though it was only a couple of weeks, I have missed quite a number of games with there being Saturday and Tuesday fixtures.

“Seeing the lads doing well has been nice to see, but you want to be a part of it. Overall, frustrating is the main word I’d use.”
