WE GOT THE GOALS WE DESERVED

31 October 2016

United defender Murray Wallace felt he and his teammates were more than good value for their victory against Swindon Town.

Wallace was part of an Iron side which ran out 4-1 winners at Glanford Park, and the Scot was particularly impressed with the blistering first half display from the hosts.

Speaking to The Iron PlayerHD, Wallace said: “I think we ran all over them in the first half and got the goals we deserved.

“The first half display was excellent, and they couldn’t live with Duane (Holmes), Paddy (Madden) and Kevin (van Veen), who were unbelievable and they deservedly got their goals.

“Other teams around us won, so it was important that we kept winning.”

The Scunthorpe centre-back believes there could have been more goals, but stated three points are always the priority, and revealed his happiness at getting them.

“In the second half we maybe stepped off it a little. It was a bit frustrating to concede but, at the end of the day, it’s a good result. It was a good performance and three more points,” he explained.

“It was there for us, you could see how well we were playing in the first half. It was a little disappointing we didn’t continue it really, and we let them come into it.”

Attention now shifts away from the league and to cup matters, with two fixtures against Charlton Athletic and Cambridge United in the FA Cup and Checkatrade Trophy respectively.

The 23-year-old insisted no matter what the competition, wins are the target, and that will be the mentality in the upcoming clashes with the Addicks and the U’s.

“It’ll be a tough game down at Charlton, and it’s probably one of the toughest ties we could have got at this stage of the competition. However, we’ll want to get our names into the next round,” Wallace stated.

“Cambridge will also be a different challenge for us, and I’m sure they’ll be up for it.

“If we can get another big tie, like we had last year with Chelsea it’d be massive for the club, so hopefully we can do that again.”
