MORRIS NOMINATED FOR SEPTEMBER PLAYER OF THE MONTH ACCOLADE

5 October 2016

Scunthorpe United winger Josh Morris has been nominated for Sky Bet League One Player of the Month for September.

The 25-year-old, who won August's accolade, is once again on the shortlist following his five goals in the second month of the season. The former Bradford City midfielder netted a hat-trick away at Walsall along with goals at Glanford Park against Southend United and Sheffield United respectively.

Also among the four-name shortlist is Bradford City's goalkeeper Colin Doyle, Northampton Town's midfielder Matt Taylor and Bury's James Vaughan.

The judging panel comprises Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman; League Managers’ Association Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery.

Here's what they had to say about each player:

Colin Doyle (Bradford City) – goalkeeper

Signed in the summer for £1 from Blackpool, the 6ft 5in Irishman provides a formidable presence in a side unbeaten this season. Commanding in the air, his athleticism was seen in a flying save which preserved a 1-1 draw at Millwall.

Josh Morris (Scunthorpe United) – winger

Has continued the blistering form that won him last month’s award with another five goals from as many games to match his August haul. Whether scoring, skipping past defenders or slipping passes to teammates, he is unstoppable just now.

Matt Taylor (Northampton Town) – midfielder

Now in a new central midfield role, what hasn’t changed for the 34-year-old is his sweet left foot, be that crossing for others or scoring sumptuous free-kicks against MK Dons and Southend which accounted for two of his three goals.

James Vaughan (Bury) – striker

Prepared to drop down a division to rediscover his form, he has added a touch of class to the Bury attack with his running and link-up play. His finishing touch is still there, too, as proven by braces against Port Vale and MK Dons.

All winners will be announced on Friday, October 7 at 6am.
