KEEP GOING AND SEE WHERE IT TAKES US

5 October 2016

Charlie Goode says it was pleasing to maintain the recent winning streak, as United strolled to a 2-0 victory over Shrewsbury Town in the Checkatrade Trophy.

The 21-year-old believes the win will serve the squad well, as they head into Saturday’s clash with Northampton Town at Glanford Park.

Goode told The Iron PlayerHD: “We said before the game that it was important to keep the good run going, and to keep up the positive results so we can take it into the league games.

“We’ve won a few on the bounce on the bounce now. It’s a good win in the end, and also a clean sheet.

“This will give us a lot of confidence going into the weekend, as will the last few results. We’ll just hopefully keep it going, and see where it takes us.”

Goode came into the side to partner Murray Wallace at the heart of the Scunthorpe defence, and he revealed it was an evening he thoroughly enjoyed.

“I always want to play as many games as I can, and help the team. It’s always good to get a clean sheet, and the aim was to get one and a win, which we managed to do in the end,” he explained.

“Myself, Murray (Wallace) and Mirf (David Mirfin) all get on well, we’re all close on and off the pitch. We compliment each other well, we work well with each other, and as you’ve seen so far this season, the pair of them have been absolutely brilliant.

“They haven’t conceded many goals, and it’s a massive part of where we are in the league at the minute.

“It’s always important when I come in to try and do the best I can, and keep the good results flowing.”

The centre back stated that despite the Iron’s good run of form, everyone’s feet are firmly on the ground, and the attention won’t waver from the Cobblers’ visit this weekend.

“We’re positive, we’re not getting carried away - we’re just focusing on the next game. We never look too far ahead. Our attention now turns to Northampton, where we’ll try to get another win,” he stated.

“They’re playing well. They’ve scored quite a few goals recently, and they’re a good side, so it’ll be a tough game, but as I said, we’ll try to keep the positive results going.”
