IT'S LIKE COMING BACK HOME

10 October 2016

United legend Alex Calvo-Garcia described his recent visit to Glanford Park as “like coming back home”, when he spoke to The Iron PlayerHD on his return to the club.

The Spaniard posed for photos and signed copies of his book "Scunthorpe Hasta La Muerte” for Iron supporters on an evening event with the former midfielder on Friday night.

He was also present on Saturday, as he watched United take on Northampton Town, and the 44-year-old says he was thrilled to be back in familiar surroundings once more.

Speaking to The Iron PlayerHD, Calvo-Garcia said: “I’m really pleased to be back.

“As I always say, it’s like coming back home. The people here are really nice with me every time I come over - it’s an absolute pleasure for me.

“I spent eight wonderful years over here and every opportunity I have to return, I’m very pleased to do so. I see the old faces, friends, and it’s nice to see the club doing so well at the moment.”

Reflecting on the night he spent in the company of United fans, Calvo-Garcia revealed he thoroughly enjoyed the evening as a whole.

“It was really nice to be around some really nice people - we had a really good night,” Calvo-Garcia explained.

“The entertainment was good and, as I said, it was great for me to be back at the club once again and see those familiar faces.”

The former Scunthorpe number 11 had a word or two to say on the current Scunthorpe 11 also, with him stating his pleasure in witnessing the splendid form of Josh Morris.

Calvo-Garcia says the shirt number he once wore holds a unique place in his heart, and added that it’s great to see Morris doing so well.

“I was really pleased that I got to go into the dressing room on Friday, because I wanted to have a look around,” he continued.

“I then saw that Josh (Morris) had the number 11 shirt, which was really pleasing for me, because It’s a number which is special to me.

“He’s doing a great job at the moment. He’s the top scorer in Europe, and I hope he carries his form on.”
