BARMBY HITS HAT-TRICK IN WIN OVER YORK

28 October 2016

The Iron's Under-18 side defeated their York City counterparts 3-1 on Friday afternoon, with George Barmby scoring a hat-trick.

Scunthorpe got off to a poor start, going behind after 37 seconds when they were slow to clear danger as York broke down their left side.

United hit back instantly when Kyle Porter headed down a Lewis Butroid free kick after two minutes and, as the ball bounced loose, Barmby was on hand to fire his team level.

It was proving to be a real physical battle as both teams competed with real commitment.

On 26 minutes, Porter headed a York goal-kick powerfully forward and Barmby latched onto it before clipping the ball beyond the York city keeper.

The home team had fought back well as they went in leading at half time.

After the restart, an excellent diagonal pass from Leslie Sackey picked out Butroid, who then drove into the box before picking out Barmby who sealed his hat-trick with an excellent finish into the top corner to ensure the iron took all three points.

Academy manager Tony Daws said: "After going 1-0 down in the opening seconds of the game, our boys showed excellent commitment, work ethic and skill to get ourselves back into the game.

"It was an excellent result and performance in a very tough match. A big well done to Barms on scoring a hat-trick."

Iron team: Kelsey, McMichael (Train, 79), Butroid, Porter, Lilley, Sackey, Dean Atkinson, Hornshaw, Barmby (Bartholomew, 90), Allasan (Busby, 88), Sithole.
Unused sub: Parker.
