Iron defender Scott Wiseman believes the away victory over Coventry City shows the spirit which currently exists within the squad.

United were made to work for their 1-0 win at the Ricoh Arena, and Wiseman says the match was up there with the toughest tests Scunthorpe have faced so far this season.

Speaking to The Iron PlayerHD: “We knew it was going to be tough.

“Speaking to a lot of people who’ve already played Coventry this season, they said they’re in a false league position.

“I think they showed us today that they are in that false position. They were a very tough opponent, one of the toughest we’ve played this season.

“To come away with a win like that and prove a point to everyone, is a big thing for us.”

The full back revealed the atmosphere after the match was superb, but again stated the positivity in the camp is a constant.

“As you can imagine, it’s elated (the mood in the changing room).

“It’s brilliant at the minute, because everyone knows their jobs and everybody’s getting fruition from that - it’s a fantastic place to be.

“It shows the character we’ve got, not just from when things are easy for us and going our way, but when they aren’t. Teams are here to stop us, and it shows we can come through it well.”

There was another strong vocal backing from the travelling Iron fans, in what was the third away fixture of the week.

Wiseman paid tribute to them, whilst also adding that the support they give to the players, has a enhancing effect on their performance.

“They’ve (the fans) bought into everything that we’ve tried to do, and what the gaffer has tried to do from the minute he walked in.

“It’s been a massive help for us, because we know as soon as we step onto the pitch, whether it be at Glanford Park or away, there’s 100% positivity from them.”
