After making his long-awaited return to the United side on Saturday, Luke Williams says he’s looking forward to kicking on once more.Williams made a cameo appearance from the bench against Charlton Athletic and, now that he’s back, he wants to keep progressing from a fitness point of view.
He told The Iron PlayerHD: “I was buzzing to be back out there, it’s just a shame we didn’t manage to get the win and progress in the FA Cup.
“I’m back in full training now and have been for a few weeks, so all I need now is some game time to get my match fitness back up.
“It’s never nice being injured, you’re always down. The lads were out there doing what they have been, and I wanted nothing more than to be out there helping however I can. It’s behind me now, and I’ve got to contribute whatever I can moving forward.”
He’ll be hoping to feature in the Checkatrade Trophy encounter with Cambridge United, in a match the 23-year-old feels will be a difficult one for the Iron.
At the same time though, Williams is confident of both a victory at the Cambs Glass Stadium and securing top spot in the group.
“I’m expecting a tough game, they’re going to be at it, they’re going to want to do well and beat us. If we go there and do what we do well, we can win the game,” he explained.
“Coming off the back of one defeat we definitely don’t want to lose two in a row, we want to continue winning and playing well like we are, and have a winning vibe around the place.”
He’s also relishing the challenge of forcing his way back into a side which has been performing consistently throughout the campaign.
“If you look at the bench we field usually, the majority of those players would walk into any team in this league,” he stated.
“It just shows the quality of players we have there. You can’t go through the season with 11 players, you’re going to pick up injuries and the squad depth will only help us push forward to where we want to be.”
