BIG MATCH PREVIEW: COVENTRY CITY v IRON

11 November 2016

After two matches in the cup, the Iron return to league action this weekend when they take on Coventry City at the Ricoh Arena.

It’s United’s first league match since they defeated Swindon Town 4-1 at Glanford Park, and they come into the game on the back of a 2-0 victory over Cambridge United in the Checkatrade Trophy during the week.

The Sky Blues themselves had an impressive victory in their respective fixture though, as they stormed to a 4-2 win over Wycombe Wanderers.

Graham Alexander says striker Tom Hopper will be assessed ahead of the game at the Ricoh Arena, after picking up a knock to his shoulder.

Fellow frontman Paddy Madden remains doubtful for the match though, with the Irishman being withdrawn in the Emirates FA Cup fixture with Charlton Athletic last Saturday.

The last encounter the two sides had was back in January of this year, with Tom Hopper and Murray Wallace scoring the goals in a 2-1 victory at the Ricoh.

Hopper’s strike came in the ninth minute, after the forward latched onto a loose ball to put the visitors ahead.

Then Wallace doubled United’s advantage, as he superbly steered his near post header into the bottom corner of the goal.

Adam Armstrong’s penalty four minutes from time gave a glimmer of hope to the home side, whose late push was brought to a halt when Roman Vincelot was dismissed in injury time.
