SECOND HALF, WE SHOWED WHAT WE'RE ABOUT

2 March 2016

Iron defender David Mirfin says the squad were a little frustrated to come away from the Banks's stadium with only a point.

United drew 0-0 with fourth placed Walsall, but Mirfin believes the visitors should have maybe got something more from the game.

He told The Iron PlayerHD: "I think on reflection we're a bit disappointed that we've not come away with all three. We came in at half time a little disappointed with how we started."

"I don't think we were showing them too much respect, I think we just sat off them a little bit and probably didn't play our normal game."

"The second half showed what we're all about. Pressing, winning the ball back high up the pitch and creating chances."

In spite of the centre back's disappointment, he did highlight that being frustrated with just a point, shows how far United have come in recent weeks.

"Andy Dawson touched on it before the start of play today that we've beaten three out of the top six while they've been in charge and we've come away to the side fourth in the league and we're disappointed with a point," he said.

"If you compare it to the Oldham game where we were at home and we played a team in the bottom four, it just shows how tough this league is at this time of the year."

The 30-year-old also reflected on the Iron's campaign so far and he feels that despite being slightly disappointed by United's start to the season, he stated there has been significant progression of late.

"As a whole and where we wanted to be at the start of the season, I think there's a bit of disappointment, but we're slowly achieving what we know we can do."

"It's just a case of now putting everything together and putting it into a performance in the whole 90 minutes, not just a half or an hour."

United face Gillingham at Glanford Park on Saturday and Mirfin insists the focus should be on what the hosts can do, rather than the high flying visitors.

"We'll show them (Gillingham) respect for where they are in the league and how they've done this season. But it's all about us on Saturday."

"Just touching on the Oldham game, we were a little disappointed with how we started and that's something we need to work on. But I'm sure Nick and Andy will make sure we're ready and raring to go on Saturday."
