MUST REMAIN FOCUSED ON SATURDAY

14 March 2016

Iron striker Paddy Madden says it was disappointing to concede late on against Shrewsbury Town, but insisted United must be focused for the visit of Chesterfield on Saturday.

A great comeback from a goal down meant Madden and his fellow team-mates looked to be heading for all three points at Greenhous Meadow, until a late Jean Louis Akpa Akpro strike levelled things up.

However, the main objective for the Irishman is getting back to winning ways against the Spireites.

He told Scunthorpe-United.co.uk: "Obviously the lads are disappointed in there, but it's another point on the board. It's two sloppy goals we've conceded, we know that.

"But there's nothing we can do now but look forward to Chesterfield on Saturday.

"It’s a point at the end of the day. There's no point beating ourselves up now."

The striker put the Iron ahead against the Shrews with a well-taken goal 15 minutes from time, and he says he'll look to take his tally for the season to 20 strikes as soon as possible.

"Every striker wants to score goals but I missed a few chances against Gillingham," he said.

"But I always make up for it and it's 19 for the season now. So I'll look to make it 20."

United sit seven points off the League One play-off places with Saturday's point. It's a gap which Madden doesn't feel is insurmountable though, especially considering the busy run of Easter fixtures which are ahead for the Iron.

The 26-year-old highlighted a good run of victories can see any side shoot up the League One table and he said that's exactly what the Iron will be looking to do.

"We just have to go again on Saturday now and look to get another three points, so we can keep climbing as far up the table as we can," he stated.

"A run of wins can see you get right back up there. In this league it doesn't matter if you're 15 points or two points off. If you can win a run of games you can easily pull those points back.

"We need to try and get as many points as can from now until the end of the season, and see where it takes us."
