The Iron were held to a 0-0 draw by Gillingham at Glanford Park.
United will have been frustrated to not take all three points from the match, after dominating for large parts.Nick Daws made one alteration from the goalless draw with Walsall in midweek, with the injured Greg Luer making way for frontman Tom Hopper.
The rest of Tuesday night's line-up was kept as it was, with Luke Daniels in goal. In front of him was a defence of Jordan Clarke, Murray Wallace, David Mirfin and Conor Townsend. In the midfield it was as you were too, as Neal Bishop, Stephen Dawson and Jamie Ness kept their places and up top was that one change, which saw Hopper return to support Jim O'Brien and Paddy Madden.
The Iron started on the front foot and in doing so, created the first chance of the match. Dawson broke down the left flank and flicked a ball into the path of Bishop, who stabbed an effort goalwards. However, Stuart Nelson in the Gillingham goal closed down the angle quickly.
The visiting shotstopper was being kept busy in the opening 20 minutes. He had to be alive again when Madden tried his luck from inside the area, after bundling his way past several Gills defenders.
The Irishman went even closer shortly after, when he got on the end of a Clarke cross from the right. The United number nine threw himself at the ball, but could only go painfully close as he crashed his header off the crossbar.
Daws' men were piling on the pressure, and went agonizingly close to taking the lead through Dawson. After Ness sent in a perfectly flighted delivery from the left, the Iron captain sent the ball towards the far corner of the goal, only to see it rebound off the post. Madden then drove an effort goalwards, but once more he would be frustrated as his strike was cleared away.
The openings continued to present themselves to the hosts and Madden was found by Dawson at the far post, but he couldn't keep his effort down and ultimately fired over from eight yards out.
It was quite hard to believe the Iron went in at the break level, but that's what it would be as Darren Deadman blew his whistle to signal the end of the first half.
Fifteen minutes into the second period, Madden was put through on goal thanks to a wonderfully weighted pass from Dawson, but Nelson foiled him.
Kyle Wootton, who scored the last gasp equaliser in the previous home match with Oldham, came on to take the place of Hopper and almost made an instant impact. The striker was found at the back post by Clarke, whose looping cross gave Wootton the chance to send a header towards goal. That was exactly what the 19-year-old did, but the Gills' 'keeper Nelson looked unbreachable.
The Gills man pulled off another fantastic stop moments later when he denied Madden after the striker had raced onto a throughball by substitute Gary McSheffrey. It looked as though Madden would finally beat the visiting stopper, but his right boot prevented Madden from opening the scoring.
Madden's chance would prove to be the last of the 90 minutes, as the visitors held out for a point.
