New Scunthorpe United manager Graham Alexander says he feels like he’s back in familiar surroundings at Glanford Park.
Alexander took the reins at the Iron on Tuesday and he revealed he can’t wait to get going in his new job.Speaking in his first press conference as manager, he told The Iron PlayerHD: “It’s fantastic, I’m really excited about what’s to come.
"Being out on the training ground again felt like it was back where I feel I belong. I couldn't wait to get started today.
"It's an ambitious club and I'm an ambitious young manager. We want to have a chance of winning and competing.
"We want to produce a team that can challenge in the top six and today has been day one of that remit.”
The 44-year-old held his first training session as the United boss on Wednesday and, in the process, got a chance to speak with both the playing and coaching staff.
He also praised Nick Daws and Andy Dawson, and feels the job they carried out was a fantastic one.
"It's been great to meet the players and the staff. I met Nick (Daws) and Andy (Dawson) for a bite to eat yesterday and met everyone else this morning,” he said.
"I've got a completely open mind with regards to what is going on at the club and Nick and Andy have done a great job so far.”
The former Scotland international takes over the Iron ahead of a busy schedule of Easter fixtures, with games on both Friday and Monday, against Barnsley and Swindon Town respectively.
However, Alexander is ready to embrace the hectic period and believes it provides a great opportunity to close the gap to the League One play-off places.
“The Christmas and Easter period are where you get games in quick succession and it can give you a real boost if you get positive results from those games,” he stated.
“We are mid-table, but the points difference isn’t that massive. There are a lot of clubs inbetween, but all we can control are our games and if we pick up enough points, we can maybe put a bit of pressure on people.”
