NEWCASTLE EXPERIENCE WILL HELP US IMPROVE AS A GROUP

12 July 2016

The Iron's U18 side were unfortunate to lose 3-0 away at their Newcastle United counterparts on Tuesday lunchtime in their second pre-season friendly.

The hosts took the lead on 20 minutes following a cross from the right, and it was 1-0 at the half-time break.

The Magpies made 11 changes at half-time and scored their second on 52 minutes with an almost identical goal, crossing from the right again.

Scunthorpe forced the Newcastle goalkeeper into some good saves, tipping a couple of shots over the crossbar, and hit the outside of the post as they tried to get back into the game.

A minute before the end, the Iron were breaking forward but lost possession midway in their half and the hosts broke to score.

Academy manager Tony Daws said: "Overall, it was a great experience for our boys and one that will help us to improve as a group."
