United striker Kyle Wootton was disappointed to see Tuesday night’s friendly with Union Unis Gschwandt called off due to torrential rain. However, he has been pleased with his experience of Austria on a whole thus far.
Wootton had opened the scoring for the Iron after just seven minutes, but the match fell victim to the rain shortly after the 30th minute.
“It’s been tough (the training), but everyone’s enjoying it,” Wootton told The Iron PlayerHD.
“It’s a change of scenery but it’s going good and everyone is putting in the hard work in training, and it seems to be paying off.”
The youngster was understandably disappointed to see the game called off, as United looked to build on Friday’s 3-0 victory over AFC Stamford.
He said: “It was nice to get back on the scoresheet. It was a shame that the weather caused that (the postponement), but it’s just one of those things.
“On Wednesday morning we had a good session and it’s covered what we’ve needed to do - it was a good effort.
“We had a lot of chances and possession (on Tuesday night) but we needed to take a few more of our opportunities. The longer the game went on I think we’d have taken them," he said.
The facilities in Austria are state of the art and, although many of the players will say it’s been tough, they all agree that they’ve thoroughly enjoyed the experience too.
“It’s a beautiful place, and all of the boys are really enjoying it. It’s good that everyone has stuck together. The new signings have come in so it’s nice time to get everyone together," he mentioned.
Thankfully there is one more match for the team out in Austria before their return back to North Lincolnshire, as United face FC Liefering on Friday night - a match Wootton is keen to get stuck into.
“Especially after what happened on Tuesday night, it’ll be good to get back out there and see what we can do, and hopefully produce what we’re doing in training into the game," he concluded.
