IRON HOST SUCCESSFUL 2016 GOLF DAY

21 July 2016

The Iron held their annual Golf Day on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at Gainsborough Golf Club.

The event, which saw 20 teams enter, teed off at 11am with a shotgun start following an arrival including tea, coffee and sausage and bacon baps for the guests.

Chairman Peter Swann and his team teed off from hole one just after the claxon sounded, with the course taking around four-and-a-half hours to negotiate, which included refreshments from the halfway house courtesy of Heineken and Eric Twigg Foods.

Following the round of golf, all teams retreated to the Solheim Suite where a three-course carvery meal was served before the winners were announced.

The club then raised a total of £380 for the raffle which included a weekend's loan of a BMW, courtesy of Marshall's BMW who were in attendance, along with a further £150 for the auctioning of a framed home jersey from last season signed by Sir Ian Botham and Ray Clemence MBE. All these monies raised will go to the League's Charity Partner Prostate Cancer UK.

Head of Commercial Martin Ellis said: "With thanks to everyone involved, including Gainsborough Golf Club for their hospitality, our annual Golf Day 2016 was an enormous success.

"We had a lot of support from our sponsors who entered teams into the golf day, while we had further support via hole sponsorships, raffle prize donations, refreshments and more which all helped make the day a triumph.

"In total, we raised £655 including the raffle, auction and Beat the Pro competition.

"It's once again great to see so many partners come together for a day through a Scunthorpe United event and we're already looking forward to organising more events for during the 2016/17 season."

The Winners:
Nearest Pin - Russ Maud (Buckingham Group)
Longest Drive - Lee Johnson (Plumbmac)
Beat the Pro - 8 Successful out of 80 (Shiv Nand randomly drawn out as the winner of the prize)
3rd - Britcon
2nd - Heineken
1st - Brenbuild
