HOLMES CAN'T WAIT TO GET STARTED

7 July 2016

The Iron's third summer signing Duane Holmes cannot wait to get started after penning a two-year deal with the club.

The versatile midfielder had been training with the side following the players' return to pre-season and has sufficiently impressed United manager Graham Alexander to be rewarded with a deal following his departure from Huddersfield Town.

"I'm very happy to finally have signed here," he told The Iron PlayerHD.

"It's been a good couple of weeks here training and hopefully I can do well when the season starts. It has been really good. There is a good group of lads here, a really close, tight-knit group of lads and I'm excited for the season ahead.

"I spoke to the manager when I first came in and he said he wasn't looking to bring many players in so to be offered a contract is obviously very pleasing."

Already looking ahead to the season, the Columbus-born 21-year-old is ready to continue what he's shown in pre-season so far ahead of the new campaign.

After being at Huddersfield Town all of his career, excluding loan spells at Yeovil Town and Bury, Holmes is looking to create a new chapter and aims to get Scunthorpe a higher-placed finish than in the previous campaign.

"Last season, they finished really strongly and now we are focusing on a good start," he stated.

"I play on the wings and I'm looking to excite the fans, running at defenders, beating players, scoring goals and creating goals and I just want a good season really.

"It's obviously going to be really different for me because I've only played for Huddersfield Town all my life. I went through every age group with them and to leave them in the summer was difficult, but I think it was the right time to take a different step in my career and hopefully play a lot more games.

"I'm hoping for a good, tough week in Austria which it will be. For the season, we are aiming to finish higher that last year and be as close to the top of the table as possible.

"I want to play games, do well and be a consistent member of the team."
