BIG MATCH PREVIEW: ROTHERHAM UNITED (H)

26 July 2016

After returning to Glanford Park on Saturday for the first time since April, the Iron are back on home soil again when they take on Rotherham United this Tuesday (7.30pm).

Graham Alexander’s men were edged out 2-0 by Hull City at the weekend, but there were plenty of positives to take, as the hosts created a number of opportunities.

They will be looking to pick up where they left off against the Millers.

United may give run-outs to some of the players not involved in the starting eleven against Hull at the weekend.

Paddy Madden (calf) missed the match as a precaution and will be assessed ahead of the Millers clash, while Jamie Ness (knee) also wasn't risked.

Sam Mantom also missed out and United will be hoping to see him return to action before the beginning of the campaign in a week-and-a-half.

Scunthorpe fans will have fond memories of the last occasion the two sides met, as they emerged 1-0 victors in the second leg of their Johnstone’s Paint Trophy area final clash in 2009 - with Gary Hooper getting the decisive goal at the Don Valley Stadium.

The Iron would go on to win the tie 3-0 on aggregate, and book their place in a Wembley final with Luton Town.

In fact, United have come out on top in the last three encounters with Rotherham, with 2-0 and 1-0 wins also.

Lee Frecklington moved to Rotherham in 2013, after impressing while being on loan at the club previously.

The midfielder had started his career off at hometown side Lincoln City, before making the switch to Peterborough United in 2009, where in a similar scenario to Rotherham, he was purchased after making an impact on loan beforehand.

In 2009, he helped the Posh achieve promotion to the Championship, and after their relegation back to League One, he was part of the side which emerged victorious in the 2011 play-offs, as Peterborough returned to the second tier of English football.

Since joining the Millers, Frecklington has become an integral part of the team, and in 2015, the 30-year-old was awarded the club captaincy, replacing former skipper Greg Halford.
