United's Conor Townsend says he's really enjoying his second spell at the club, following his permanent move from Hull City in the January transfer window.
Townsend revealed he had to put the hard yards in before he was given his chance but, after making his first appearance since returning to the Iron, the former Hull man's intention is to nail down a regular first team spot.He told The Iron PlayerHD: "I'm really enjoying it. The first couple of weeks was just training, and getting my head down and working hard.
"I've enjoyed it, I've enjoyed the training and I'm settling in the same as last season. So hopefully I can keep my place in the team, and do well for the club."
The full-back picked up the man of the match award for his performance against the U's but, for Townsend, the test is to maintain or even better what he produced on Saturday.
Townsend also highlighted the quality of his fellow team-mate Scott Laird, and he believes he has to turn in impressive displays week-in week-out to keep the former Preston man out of the side.
"It's nice to first and foremost get a start, and I know Lairdy (Scott Laird) is a really good player. I've got to be at my best to keep my place in the team," he said.
"It's a challenge for me, and on Saturday it went well, but I've got to put it behind me and look to this Saturday to try and do well again.
"To be honest I didn't really expect to come in and get straight in the team. It was an opportunity for me, but the real challenge is to stay in the team now."
Next up for United is an away clash with Coventry, but Townsend doesn't feel the Iron have anything to fear, heading to the Ricoh Arena.
"We obviously know they're a good team. But, after Saturday, I don't think there's any reason why we can't go there and have a go, play some good football and get some goals," he stated.
"I don't think there's anything to be frightened about, we can go there, play our game and hopefully come away with three points."
