CAME OUT FIGHTING IN THE SECOND HALF

20 February 2016

Joint caretaker manager Andy Dawson took positives from the Iron's second half display in the 2-1 defeat to Fleetwood.

In the first loss since his and Nick Daws' caretaker charge, Paddy Madden halved a 2-0 first half deficit, but United just fell short of a point despite late chances.

"It was a disappointing first half, definitely," he told The Iron PlayerHD.

"We just never got going or got to grips with them in the first half. We conceded two disappointing goals. One has come from a long ball and the other from a cross, which of late we have been dealing really well with.

"We stayed in the game though at 2-0 and we had a chat at half time and we demanded more from them and how we could hurt them.

"I've got to give the lads every bit of credit because they came out in the second half and have given everything they've got, and arguably could have got something.

"From our point of view, they kept going and demanded more from each other, but just couldn't get that final ball, or final cross or detail. We will come back in next week, positive and go again. Onwards and upwards."

Stephen Dawson was forced off early on following a tackle from Shola Ameobi with the score at 1-0, with Jack King on to replace him.

"He had a tackle and his hamstring was tight," (Andy) Dawson confirmed.

"We thought it was right for him to come off and we will see how he is on Monday.

"We've seen already the impact they (the substitutes) bring. They're good footballers and both Jim O'Brien and Greg Luer look as though they can create chances for themselves."

Oldham Athletic are next up for the Iron at Glanford Park, arriving in a similar position to Fleetwood in the table. Dawson gave his initial thoughts ahead of the game.

"Again we will show them the upmost respect," he continued.

"It's about the fine margins and there's not a lot between the teams at the top and bottom.

"We will move forward, come in bright and bubbly and work to make them better."
