BOSS PROVIDES UPDATE ON DUO

24 February 2016

United boss Nick Daws says Luke Williams and Stephen Dawson will be assessed later in the week, ahead of Saturday's game against Oldham.

Williams has missed the last two outings after picking up a knock in the 1-0 victory over Southend United just under a fortnight ago, while the skipper was brought off as a precaution in last weekend’s defeat to Fleetwood Town after his hamstring tightened up.

Luke Williams is hoping to return to the first team fold soon.

“Luke is improving by the day,” he told The Iron PlayerHD.

“We’re hopeful. He’s been doing a little bit of running in the early stages of the week and that will hopefully build up as we come towards the end of the week and we will see what position we are in. That’s a positive.

“Stephen, we lost to a slight hamstring complaint, but a tightness rather than a pull. We’re hoping he will be available to train in the later part of the week and that’s a positive as well.

Stephen Dawson came off during last week's loss at Fleetwood.

“He’s had a tough six months with us with his knee and we didn’t see the best of him until he came back into the team against Doncaster, when he was excellent.

“He’s still in a process where we manage his load to make sure he’s as fit and as fresh as he possibly can be going into each game. It was a slight setback to lose him against Fleetwood, but if he’s fit, ready and raring to go we will be delighted.

“If not, then we have ample strength to replace him. Other than that we have knocks but nothing other than what is expected. Hopefully within the week we will be back to full strength again in the squad.”
