WE'VE GOT TO GET BACK TO IT

9 December 2016

Scunthorpe shotstopper Luke Daniels says everyone in the squad is relishing the return of league action.

Saturday’s away clash with Rochdale is the first in Sky Bet League One for two weeks and, while stating the importance of a breather, Daniels stated footballers just want to play matches.

Speaking to The Iron PlayerHD, Daniels said: “They’re always a hard working tough side to play against.

“It’s one we’re looking forward to. We’re getting back to the league after a couple of weeks away, so it’ll be good for us.

“It’s nice when the games come thick and fast when you’re on a roll, but it is important sometimes to take a little break from the games.

“The two weeks have been both hard and good, but we’re looking forward to getting back to the matches."

Performance-wise, Daniels believes he and his team-mates need to raise their game, following one or two showings which he felt where ‘flat’ in parts.

“We’ve got to get back to it,” Daniels insisted.

“There have been a few performances where we’ve been a little bit flat, so we need to get back to how we play and the displays that have got us to the top of the league - so that’s what we’ve got to aim to do.

“If we get back to how we played at the start of the season, there are not going to be a lot of teams that can live with us.”

After edging out Morecambe on Tuesday night, the Iron have been drawn away against Oxford United in the last 16 of the Checkatrade Trophy - a game which, again, the 28-year-old feels will be difficult.

He also provided his thoughts on that victory over the Shrimps, saying progression was the most important thing.

“It’s going to be another tough game. We had them a few weeks ago and they were a good test for us, but it’s a game we’re confident we can win,” he explained.

“Morecambe came and made it difficult for us. We weren’t at our best but, at the end of the day, we got through to the next round - so that’s all that matters.

“We’ve done it a few times in recent months, where we have been slightly off the boil. However, we’ve still managed to pick up the points, so that’s the main thing.”
