Iron full-back Scott Wiseman believes the recuperation period he and his team-mates have been afforded has been beneficial, but stated everyone now wants to get back in action.
The first chance the United squad have to do that is against Morecambe in the Checkatrade Trophy at Glanford Park on Tuesday, and Wiseman says he can’t wait to get going again.Speaking to The Iron PlayerHD, Wiseman said: “It’s been good, it’s given us the chance to recharge our batteries, and come the end of the season it could prove to be a blessing in disguise.
“With us not being in the FA Cup and the run we’re on, not having the extra games in there could benefit us, so hopefully that will be the case.
“It was always a massive hit getting knocked out of the FA Cup, no one likes losing. There’s been a chance for anyone who’s had any knocks or niggles to recharge going into Morecambe.”
When questioned about the threat Jim Bentley’s side pose, the Gibraltar international was quick to point out the encounter will not be an easy one by any means.
“They’re an established League Two team, they’ve got some experience and a lot of youthfulness,” he stated.
“They’ve always been tough to beat down the years, that’s always what I’ve found anyway. They’ll be coming here, and they’ll want a scalp as well - with us being one of the highest ranked teams in the competition still.
“People want us to slip up, so it’s a different mindset for us, and it’s a different challenge for us to approach.”
Reflecting on his own sustained run in the team, the 31-year-old insists he isn’t taking anything for granted, and added that he’s thoroughly enjoying his football.
“It’s always nice to be involved, it’s always harder when you’re watching,” he explained.
“However, when you’re watching the team doing well, you can accept it, and that’s been the case for me.
“I’ve had to bide my time and wait, which is what I’ve done, and hopefully I can stay in the team now.”
