The Iron's youth team were beaten 2-0 away at Rotherham United on Saturday, December 10.

Scunthorpe went a goal down after three minutes when a high ball into the six-yard box saw goalkeeper Joe Parker challenged by the Rotherham striker and, as they both jumped to meet the ball, the Iron custodian was unable to secure it and the ball bounced loose where Rotherham followed up to sweep the ball home.

Scunthorpe went 2-0 down on 11 minutes when Rotherham’s left winger cut in and shot from outside the penalty area, with the ball taking a deflection past Parker.

The Iron got back into the game, going close on a number of occasions and then Harvey Ablett broke the Rotherham defence to steer his effort past the Rotherham goalkeeper only to be given offside.

IRON: Parker, McMichael (Colclough, 85), Butroid (Bartholomew, 46), Porter, Lilley, Sackey, Busby (Ablett, 46), Hornshaw, Barmby (Allasan, 75), Dean-Atkinson, Train.
