TOWNSEND LOOKING FORWARD TO FESTIVE MATCHES

9 December 2016

Full-back Conor Townsend believes United will have be somewhere near their best if they’re to take three points from this weekend’s encounter with Rochdale.

The match at Spotland sees fifth take on first, and Townsend is anticipating a highly competitive affair.

Speaking to The Iron PlayerHD, Townsend said: “They’ve done well this season, especially at home.

“We know that It’s going to be a tough game, so we’ve got to get back to the levels we were at previously.

“If we can do that, I feel we can go far.”

Speaking about the hectic festive period, the 23-year-old says the squad see it as a big opportunity, particularly with the clashes which are on the horizon.

“It’s traditionally quite a busy time of the year for us,” Townsend stated.

“The turnaround of games is quite enjoyable really, instead of having long periods between games. The majority of players will tell you they prefer playing, and I think the lads enjoy it.

“It’s going to be a big Christmas for us anyway, because we’ve got Bradford and Bolton in that period. Hopefully we can come out of it looking pretty good.”

The former Hull City man revealed that, after an extensive break from league action, everyone is chomping at the bit to get back going again.

“We’ve had quite a while since the last league game (against Oxford United). It might have done us good having a little bit of a break from it,” he explained.

“It gives us the chance to then recharge our batteries and go again for the second half of the season.”
