IT'S NICE TO BE BACK AT HOME

6 December 2016

Iron winger Josh Morris says he’s relishing Tuesday’s Checkatrade Trophy clash with Morecambe at Glanford Park.

The fixture between the two sides is the first of a knockout nature in the competition so far, and Morris believes now is the time things really begin to heat up.

Morris told The Iron PlayerHD: “It’s nice to be back at home. With us being away at Cambridge last, it’s good to get back to Glanford Park.

“Now it’s a knockout competition, which we’ll look forward to, and hopefully we can get the result to match.

“At the end of the day it’s a chance to get to Wembley, and that’s where every player eventually wants to play. With that in mind, we’ll prepare and take it importantly - like we always do.”

Scunthorpe go into the game fresh off the back of a break, with no fixtures since the 1-1 draw against Oxford United over a week ago.

Morris feels the rest period will set him and his team-mates up well moving forward, and stated the squad is fully prepared for what lies ahead.

“We’ve been training hard. We had a few days off at the start of last week, but it’s now back to it and we’re all looking forward to Tuesday,” Morris stated.

“It’s a long, tough season and, especially with the busy period coming, it’s nice to have that break. Everyone’s revitalised and ready to go.”

That draw against Oxford was, in Morris’ eyes, not too bad a point - considering how the match panned out.

The 25-year-old drew attention to the fact that the Iron are constantly keeping the points tally ticking over, which he says is a great trait to have.

“We’re still picking up results when we’re not playing well, which is the main thing,” he insisted.

“We had three tough games looking at it. You can’t win every game, but if you’re picking up points when you’re playing well, it shows the sign of a good team.

“It’s massive, every month is important. However, in this period there are a lot of games close together, so it’s time to pick up points on everyone else around us.”
