DANIELS ON BOLTON TASK

30 December 2016

United shotstopper Luke Daniels states every member of the squad knows the importance of Saturday’s encounter with Bolton Wanderers.

He did though however highlight that it’s crucial not to place too much extra significance on the clash at the Macron Stadium.

Speaking to The Iron PlayerHD, Daniels said: “It’d be quite easy to get sucked into the top of the table clash stuff, and we all know how big the game is.

“At the end of the day though it’s only another three points, and it’s another game towards our ambition. We’ve just got to go there and do what we know we’re capable of.

“It’s nice to be involved in the big games, in nice stadiums against big teams but, as I stated, it is three points.

“It’ll be good to get the cushion back at the top of the league, but it’s not going to define what we’re going to do this season.”

The 28-year-old revealed he and his teammates are in a positive frame of mind heading into the New Year’s Eve fixture, and optimistic of taking all three points, against what he says is a strong Bolton side.

Daniels explained: “It’s another tough game for us coming up, over what’s been quite a tough period.

“We’ve had a few difficult games, but it’s one we’re confident we can go and take the points from.

“They’ve got a lot of talented players, so even though they may go a little direct, they’re still going to have the quality in and around the box.

“We’ve got to be alive to that, and it will of course be a really tough game for us.”

The Iron go into the game off the back of a well earned point on Boxing Day at Bradford City - a result Daniels feels the team can draw added confidence from.

“We need to keep fending those teams off, and keep the gap as big as possible really,” he explained.

“It’s good that we came out of it equal. It was one of the games where it could have gone either way, as there were chances for both teams.

“If you do go away to Bradford and take a point, it’s not the worst result in the world.

“You obviously do go there to win, but they’ve got a decent home record as well, which means it’s not an easy place for teams to go to.”
