U18 SIDE LOSE AT MANSFIELD

20 August 2016

The Iron's U18 side lost 1-0 at Mansfield Town on Saturday morning.

The Iron conceded on 42 minutes when a shot from the edge of the box was saved but Mansfield reacted the quickest to follow up and score from the rebound.

United were forced into a change at half-time as Joe Parker was unable to continue after injuring his shoulder. First year 'keeper Adam Kelsey took over in goal and was immediately called in to action when he made a terrific penalty save after Leslie Sackey was adjudged to have used his hand to control the ball as he cleared the danger.

United started to get back into it as the game progressed and, with the pressure that they were exerting, forced numerous set plays but unfortunately they couldn't quite capitalise on them.

In the last minute of the game, Iron striker David Allasan went through and with only the Mansfield keeper to beat fired his effort over the bar.

Academy manager Tony Daws said: "From today we have to learn that we have to start games with the desire, commitment and work ethic that we finished the game with when we were chasing for an equaliser.

"Our boys did much better in the second half and probably deserved to take a point from the game."

Team: Parker (Kelsey, 46), McMichael, Butroid, Sithole, Lilley, Sackey, Busby (Ablett, 80), Hornshaw, Dean-Atkinson (Barmby, 56), Allasan, Train.
