Striker Tom Hopper says the chance to get back into competitive action is something both he and the rest of the squad are looking forward to immensely.

United kick-off their campaign at home to Bristol Rovers on Saturday, and Hopper insists a solid start is a crucial, as it’ll provide a foundation for the next ten months of the season.

He told The Iron PlayerHD: “I can’t wait now.

“We’ve done all of our running work and we’re just itching to get into the games, and put what we’ve been doing into practice.

“It all really came to fruition at the end of last season, and we look back at the beginning as to where we really lost it.

“So we’re keen to start on the front foot, be aggressive in everything we do and it’s key to getting a good start, so that’s what we’re keen to do.

“We’re a positive and confident group, so that wave and that confidence is still there. We’ve won a few games in pre-season and, as I’ve said before, it’s a good habit to get into."

On a personal note Hopper is looking for a fast start too, after what he feels was a slow beginning to the previous campaign.

“A bit like the team, I got off to a slow start, so it’s key for me to hit the ground running,” he stated.

“So I’ll be looking to do that hopefully and fingers crossed I can get off the mark quite quickly, and get going."

The 22-year-old is expecting a close affair on Saturday however, and was quick to point out Darrell Clarke’s men will come into the match buoyant.

“They’ll be on a high, just like we’ve been and they’ll be a good side. They’ll be tough and there are no easy games in this league,” he insisted.

“We can’t treat them any differently just because they’ve come up, they’re a League One side. So we’ll address it right, and we’ll be doing all we can to get three points.”
