HE'S WHOLEHEARTED AND WILL GIVE EVERYTHING

31 August 2016

Iron manager Graham Alexander believes loan addition Richie Smallwood will add further quality to the midfield ranks.

The 25-year-old has signed on loan from Rotherham for the remainder of the season, and the boss feels the player possesses abilities that will endear him to the United faithful.

“He’s a central midfield player who can knit the play together, who’s very combative and gets around the pitch,” Alexander told Scunthorpe-United.co.uk.

“He’s only 25 but he’s got a lot of experience and has played over 80 games in the Championship over the past two seasons.

“We feel he will add to the quality we already have in that part of the pitch, and make sure we continue on the level we’re at.

“He’s found himself just out the picture a little bit at Rotherham and wants to play first team football. He has the opportunity to do that here.

"Richie’s the sort of player supporters can identify with, he’s wholehearted and will give everything he’s got on the pitch.

“He has a lot of good years ahead of him. He’s learning the game year by year but is at a great age and he has a great motivation.

“We’re delighted to have him on board and we look forward to enjoying his abilities.”
