PLAYING WITH FREEDOM

22 April 2016

Iron full back Jordan Clarke feels the defence which he’s a part of is mentally in a great state of mind currently.

Clarke put the good atmosphere down to how defensively resolute the United back four has been of late, and added he hopes it continues for a sustained period of time.

The full-back told The Iron PlayerHD: “I think it was a good test for us. We came through some decent pressure, but I don’t think we’ve been uncomfortable in recent games. We’ve felt really solid and at the moment we’re in a really good place as a back four and a back five as well.

“A clean sheet for us is like scoring a goal at the other end, and we’ve had a lot of those recently.

“There have been some good performances, and there have also been some not so good performances. However, despite that we’re still picking up the wins.”

Next up for the Iron is an away clash with Peterborough United, opponents whp ran out 4-0 victors in the reverse fixture at Glanford Park in November.

For Clarke, it’s a result he’s itching to avenge and he insisted the team will be doing everything to do just that when they travel to the ABAX Stadium.

“Obviously that was at a different stage of the season and we were playing in a different way. There was also probably a lot of different personnel on the field too, but I do remember being involved in it, and it wasn’t nice,” he said.

“So we’re going to go there and look to put that result right, whilst at the same time keeping our good run going which we’re on at the minute.”

United’s third league victory in succession leaves them four points of the play-off places, but the defender doesn’t feel there’s any need in looking too far ahead too quickly.

He highlighted there’d be no point in disrupting the current mood which currently exists in the Iron camp by adding unnecessary pressure upon themselves.

“I’m viewing it exactly the same, in the sense we’re playing with freedom. We’re not thinking about the play-offs, because even if we do win our last three games we still have to rely on other people’s results,” he stated.

“There’s no point in putting the pressure back on ourselves and adding that to our games. We need to continue what we’ve been doing, because we’ve been picking up the wins. So there’s no point changing the mindset.”
