Scunthorpe United can announce defender David Mirfin has signed a new one-year deal with the club.

The centre back originally joined the Iron in 2008, featuring 95 times in the league, before moving to Watford in 2011.

However, after returning on loan the following year, Mirfin made his stay a permanent one and has gone on to line up over 100 times for us since.

Mirfin has been a key part of the United back four this season, making 33 appearances so far, while forming a formidable defensive partnership with Scotsman Murray Wallace in the process.

In addition, the 30-year-old has been part of a Scunthorpe backline which has kept 18 clean sheets in all competitions so far in the current campaign.

His deal will run until the summer of 2017.
