LOOKING VERY SOLID THROUGHOUT

21 April 2016

United defender Conor Townsend feels to get three wins on the bounce will only add to the great atmosphere which currently exists within the squad.

The left-back was speaking after he and his Iron teammates edged out Bury 2-1 at Glanford Park, in a victory the full back was delighted with.

Townsend told The Iron PlayerHD: “We knew Bury were going to pose a threat to us with their physical presence. However, I thought we stood up to it really well.

“To get three wins on the bounce going into this stage of the season is great and the squad is really enjoying that form.

“It’s another good victory and it makes it three on the spin, but we’ll go into Saturday forgetting about this result, and look for a way to beat Peterborough.

“You play football to win games and at the moment we’re doing that, so it’s enjoyable to play in and all the lads are working for one another, which I think you can see.”

The 23-year-old has been part of a Scunthorpe back four which continues to look resolute, something he believes doesn’t happen by accident.

However, he highlighted it’s a squad effort and the impressive defensive displays stem from the attacking end of the team.

“The relationships which the back four have got with each other are really good and really strong. I think you can see that with the performances,” he said.

“When we do come under pressure there is going to be times in the game where the other team does have spells and we’ve got to stand up and defend.

“I think at the minute the back four, the midfield and the team as a whole does look very solid throughout.”

United now go into Saturday’s away clash with Peterborough four points away from the League One play-off places but, in Townsend’s opinion, no one in the camp will be viewing things any differently.

“I don’t think anything has changed. A lot of people wrote us off when it went to nine points and that was understandable with nine points to claw back from six games,” he stated.

“We’ve gone into every game looking to win it, and with a plan. We’ve won the last three and hopefully we can win the next couple and see where it takes us.

“There’s no change in mentality from us as players. We just want to keep on doing what we’ve been doing and keep things going.”
