DELIGHTED EXPERIENCED DUO WILL STAY

18 April 2016

Iron manager Graham Alexander is delighted both David Mirfin and Neal Bishop have put pen to paper, securing their futures with Scunthorpe beyond the current campaign.

Both have extended their stays at Glanford Park for a further year, with Alexander hailing their experience and respectability both in the dressing room and out on the pitch.

"Bish is an experienced campaigner," he said, speaking on The Iron PlayerHD.

"He's had a very good season and is very consistent, having seen him from afar and speaking to the staff members.

"He's done everything that's required of him and he's very respected in the changing room.

"Mirf I've come up against loads of times and he was always immaculate. Since I have come in here, I have seen nothing different and speaking to the staff, the Chairman and the Chief Executive, he's done well all season.

"You know what you're going to get from him and he's another well-respected member of the squad."

It is their playing exploits that have earned the duo an extended stay with the Iron, with Bishop making 45 appearances for United so far this campaign, scoring one goal, while Mirfin has made 34 appearances, netting twice.

"First and foremost, it's what you do out on the pitch," he continued.

"We have some very good young players in the squad but these players need to learn how to handle themselves and how to be professionals around good, older professionals. Dave Mirfin and Neal Bishop are two of those.

"I think young and old both need each other for different reasons. You've got to have good, experienced players in there showing the younger players how to do their day-to-day job, not just learning from the staff.

"They are good players and they help us win games and the more players you can get like that, the better."
