DANIELS BACK TRAINING AHEAD OF CREWE

14 April 2016

Manager Graham Alexander is hoping to have goalkeeper Luke Daniels back within the Iron squad for the trip to Crewe Alexandra on Saturday.

Daniels, who had previously kept five clean sheets in the last eight outings, missed out on last week’s 1-0 victory over Burton Albion after suffering a groin injury in training.

The former West Bromwich Albion keeper resumed full training on Thursday ahead of the trip to Cheshire, with him and Joe Anyon both vying for a starting position after the latter put in a Football League Team of the Week performance in the game at Glanford Park last weekend.

“Luke trained with us on Thursday,” Alexander told The Iron PlayerHD.

“He will come back into the squad as long are there are no reactions to that overnight. Then obviously I’ve got a decision to make. I will discuss it with my staff this afternoon and take it from there.

“To have two good goalkeepers competing for one spot is a good position for me as the manager to be in.”

Elsewhere, other than injuries to Scott Wiseman and Sean McAllister, the Scunthorpe boss is looking to draw upon a near-fully fit squad for the trip to Crewe.

He also gave an update to the full-back's injury, after he underwent surgery to remove a bone growth.

“I think everyone got through the Development game okay,” he continued.

“Everyone has got over their bumps and bruises from last weekend’s game, so hopefully we will have the same sized squad going into Saturday. Touch wood after training on Friday that’ll still be the case.

“Scott’s operation went as well as could have been expected. He’s obviously in his recovery period now and won’t be fit again this season. Looking at him and knowing about him, he looks after himself well and that will help him in recovering from his injury.

“We won’t have him until the summer, but both full backs at the moment are playing out of their skins. The more players we can get fit and back into the squad, the better it is for us.”
