YOUTH TEAM EDGED OUT BY LINCOLN

26 September 2015

The Iron's U18 side lost 3-2 to their Lincoln City counterparts at St Lawrence Academy on Saturday.

United went 1-0 up on four minutes after good combination play between Jack Dyche and Noel Burdett saw Dyche open the scoring with a low shot into the far corner.

United scored again on 15 minutes when Sami Ebraheem finished off a good move at the far post only to see the linesman's flag rule his effort out.

City equalised on 35 minutes when goalkeeper Ben Ledger unfortunately fumbled a cross into his own goal to set the Iron back.

United fell behind after 51 minutes when they conceded from a free-kick that was curled into their penalty area to a City player who was unmarked and he headed home.

Burdett levelled the scores on 75 minutes after a good one-two with Dyche.

Minutes later, Dyche smashed his shot against the post as the Iron went for the winner.

However, City nicked the win in the 85th minute in controversy after a free kick was headed towards the Iron's goal. Ben Ledger appeared to prevent the ball crossing the line but the linesman awarded a goal to the Imps.

United were thwarted again on 89 minutes as Burdett headed the ball back to the six-yard line and Dyche blasted home but once again the goal was ruled out for offside and the Iron youngsters unbeaten run came to an end.

Afterwards, academy manager Tony Daws said: "We are disappointed to lose the game under the circumstances as the game unfolded, our lads worked so hard to create so many goal scoring opportunities. Today our boys deserved more from the game."
