WE'LL COME BACK FIGHTING

26 September 2015

Manager Mark Robins has vowed his team will come back fighting, starting with Tuesday night’s home game with Walsall.

The Iron were on the receiving end of a 2-1 reverse for the second successive away game, with the Scunthorpe boss keen to look to turn things around with a double-header at Glanford Park in the next seven days.

“Ultimately, it’s been a poor day,” he told The Iron PlayerHD.

“It’s a game we should have won, without a shadow of doubt. Ultimately they’ve done what they do better than what we do well. We’ve been disappointing.

“We got a good start and a really good goal and take from Gary (McSheffrey). That’s given us a leg-up into the game, but we’ve got to win these games. It’s one we should have won and we’ve not made them work hard enough to win the game. Again it’s a tale of something we are getting fairly used to and fairly fed up with if I’m honest.

“We’ve got to be better than that – we’ve been poor. We’ve got to turn things around and the good thing is that it is in our own hands to do that. I can see anxiety on the pitch and I can see that they want to try and do things but fear-freezing and not doing things.

“Life’s hard. Life’s not fair. Results go against you. We come out fighting or you fold – and we’re certainly not going to fold. We’ve got to keep fighting and make sure we do it justice, because we didn’t do it justice today.

“We are better than that and we weren’t good enough today. That was clear. That was evident and we need to put it right as quickly as we possibly can do. The only two good things for me today are Gary’s goal and the game that comes quickly on the back of this at home to Walsall.

“Literally a fortnight ago we came out and said we had turned a corner. The home form is good; it is the away form that needs to get better. I think that at this stage, we can all overreact and the start hasn’t been great, it’s been poor.”

He added: “We’re better than that, but we’ve got to show it.”
