ANYON AND MIRFIN MEET NEW FUTSAL INTAKE

16 September 2015

Last season, the Iron and Futsal went hand-in-hand to create success and this season Education Manager Gav Cooper hopes for more of the same.

He took his team from the first round of the Soccer AM Cup in Leeds to Birmingham and then St George’s Park where the final game, which they weren’t even involved in sealed their fate to play in the final of the competition at the Copperbox Arena, Olympic Park, London.

This season’s intake has already got going in their domestic competitions, along with their important BTEC qualifications that go alongside it, with two of United’s first team players Joe Anyon and David Mirfin taking time out to talk to the football-aspiring second years as they look to emulate the successes of the previous year.

With Futsal a whole different take on football, the first years also triumphed in the opening day of matches, with Scunthorpe ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ all remaining unbeaten throughout the course of the day. Leeds United, Mansfield Town, Middlesbrough, Sheffield United and Wednesday were all among the sides the Iron beat in the opening round of fixtures, with the ‘A’ and ‘C’ winning every match, while the ‘B’ side won one and drew three.

We hope to update supporters regularly with their progress this season as they aim to make it as successful, if not more, than the last. Follow @SUFCFutsal for up-to-date news on the Futsal scholars and also keep an eye out on @SUFCOfficial for updates.
