WE GOT THE RESULT WE DESERVED

12 October 2015

Kevin van Veen was delighted to score his second goal of the season, and help contribute to a huge three points on the road for United – their first win on their travels this campaign.

Goals from Gary McSheffrey, Tommy Rowe, Paddy Madden and van Veen were the difference, as the Iron romped to a deserved 4-2 victory.

The Dutchman told The Iron PlayerHD he was delighted to get the win, explaining: “It was a good team performance. I thought we started really well and we got a good goal from McSheffrey.

“Then in five minutes we let in two goals, but after all we won 4-2 here so I’m really happy.”

Van Veen added to the wonderful free kick he scored at Colchester last month, taking his tally to two for the season.

“For me I’m very happy. I’m happy to help the team first but really happy to make a goal like this,” he said.

“I thought Tom Hopper was really good and he deserves a lot of credit. He got 75 minutes and played really well, I got 15 minutes and I was happy to come on and score.

“We always have the confidence and we have been very unlucky in some games. Today we played really well.”

The Iron frontman gave us a fantastic description of what has been described by various sources as the ‘goal of the weekend’.

He said: “I picked the ball up and wanted to sprint into the corner. I saw a little gap in between the two defenders, so I dinked it in between them a little bit.

“Then I see the other defender with his legs open so I say “yeah come on Kev, you can do this.” So I did a nutmeg.

“Then I chose to do a dink at the goalkeeper because I thought he was outstanding today. I was very happy with the goal.”

Van Veen said he thought a good week in training may have aided him in his spectacular goal.

“I thought I had a really nice training week this week, and it has given me the confidence to score," he said.

"I’m always happy to score goals. Ugly goals, nice goals – but this is maybe goal of the week?

“I was relieved. I’ve been struggling to get my own goals here but I’m really happy to help the team and just get my own goal, and get the three points – because we are better than where we are standing now.”
