TAKE YOUR CHANCE WHEN IT COMES

20 October 2015

United defender David Mirfin is looking forward to another tough test as the team travels to face Gillingham on Tuesday evening.

Mirfin’s return to the first team has coincided with Scunthorpe’s upturn in form – seeing them register three wins out of three – and Mirfin is as delighted as anyone to again be a part of the team.

“It’s probably gone better than I had expected it would,” he told The Iron PlayerHD.

“I’m glad that I’ve been able to come in and personally do okay and it has coincided with the team clicking and all of the hard work that the manager, staff and players has been doing have been coming together now. What we work on all week is happening on a Saturday.

“In football, things can change in twenty-four hours and that’s what happened for me. It’s not just an eleven, it’s a whole squad effort and it’s about taking the chance when it comes.”

Gillingham, being the next opponents, will pose a tough test to Scunthorpe after breaking into the top half of the table for the second time this season – especially having gone top after the weekend’s victory against Crewe Alexandra.

“It probably comes at a good time for us,” he continued.

“If we want to be where Gillingham are now, they are the teams that we need to be beating. The confidence we should have off the back of the last three games should set us up perfectly for tomorrow night. The biggest pressure will come from us. Now we’ve won three on the bounce, we want to win a fourth, regardless of who it is or where we are playing.

“Momentum is such a big thing in this league – and it shoots you right up the league. We know what we’ve achieved is very little in terms of the whole goal of the season. We’ve got Championship-quality players in our squad and if we can make Glanford Park a fortress and pick up some good away points at well then nine times out of ten you will be there or there abouts.

“We’re hoping to take the confidence to gain the rhythm and momentum and you go into games knowing you can get results from whoever you are playing.”
