SOMETHING FOR US TO BUILD ON

16 October 2015

Iron winger Gary McSheffrey feels the away victory last time out against Oldham Athletic is something the squad can build on going into this Saturday's clash with Shrewsbury Town.

United made it back-to-back wins for the first time this season against the Latics and McSheffrey says the result was a big one.

"Obviously to score four goals in any game is a good achievement, but the most important was to get the first back-to-back wins," he told The Iron PlayerHD.

"It was a big performance and a big result for us, and one we can build on. Everyone's performed well individually and collectively as a team."

McSheffrey opening the scoring in the 4-2 victory and he stated that the strike will be sure to provide a boost to his confidence.

"It's nice, goals are what attackers live off, it's such a confidence booster and such a nice feeling when it hits the net," he said.

The former Coventry man thinks that things are finally coming together and that the evidence has been there in the past two victories to suggest that there's a greater deal of freedom in United's play.

He also highlighted that he feels the Iron are capable of beating the majority of opposition in League One.

"You can see in the second half against Fleetwood and the game on Saturday, that players are slowly getting the shackles off," he stated.

"When we play well and things click, I feel we can beat the majority of the teams in the league.

"They're all winnable games in my eyes, the squad's eyes, the manager's and the fans as well."

Ahead of the clash with the Shrews, McSheffrey says the confidence boost that the squad have been given with the back-to-back victories will mean they'll go into the game feeling good.

He also believes that things are heading in the right direction and hopes that Saturday will see United make it three wins on the spin.

"We just haven't had that consistency, but hopefully back-to-back wins is a good confidence booster and we'll go into the game feeling good," he insisted.

"Saturday shows that we're going in the right direction, obviously its early days but we hope to put on a good performance on Saturday and get a good result."
